TV commercial transcript

A transcript of the Power to Protect television commercial.

We follow a young father, Joseph, through several moments in a usual week. Joseph's in his early twenties, of mixed Pacific Island and Maori background; he's strong-looking with a boyish grin, he enjoys joking round with his mates and is also a big family man who's loyal and caring to all around him.

Joseph is standing alone in the supermarket (superette). He has a large, ridiculously pink and frilly, baby's nappy bag over his shoulder - and looks more than a little uncomfortable about it. Down the aisle, two of his mates walk by, stop in astonishment, and burst out laughing. They can't believe what they're seeing. Glaring at them Joseph turns back and, as his partner Hannah appears with their baby and pram, he switches quickly to a smile.

Joseph's best friend is talking to a group of other guys. There's some disagreement - they're starting to push him around a little. Joseph steps up beside his friend and cheerfully diffuses the tension.
